Quake Live *is* native

It’s simply delivered as a plugin via the browser — otherwise it runs fully X86, Windows native code. It used to not run on Linux, but a quick check and it seems to with some caveats.

As for browser based 3D games… might not be as far off as you think. Open these in a (very) recent version of Chrome…
