previously running games on linux using wine would report whatever windows version wine has been configured to report. with this linux users should be able to run windows games on linux using steams new wine inside the linux client and have it be reported as a linux sale. big plus not having to setup wine and be counted as a WINDOWS SALE

i’ve opted into the beta and will have a play around with it my library has about 200 or so windows games from bundles/cancelled ports

Valve’s “Steam Play” uses Vulkan to bring more Windows games to Linux

Valve announced today a beta of Steam Play, a new compatibility layer for Linux, to provide compatibility with a wide range of Windows-only games.

We’ve been tracking Valve’s efforts to boost Linux gaming for a number of years. As of a few months ago, things seemed to have gone very quiet, with Valve removing SteamOS systems from its store. Last week, however, it became clear that something was afoot for Linux gaming.

Really enjoying subnautica

sofar ive tested a few(kinda mixed bag for what i got on my account)

Sniper elite v2 doesnt load at all
Sanctum 1 is like 50 fps :/
Viscera cleanup detail – freezes installing dotnet(how do you people stand the first time install crap)
Deus Ex human rev – only loaded to menu but seems working
and subnautica – had to force opengl and theres a very annoying mouse focus bug but works well otherwise

it does make things easier but wine is still wine and buggy as. some games like monsterhunter world and skyrim have been getting good results ive been reading so next sale might pick up some new games :)

sadly most anticheat wont work(same with running it in wine) so some games will not work for that reason
