As mentioned earlier, you can’t determine which team will be selected for Team Up mode. However, once the team is selected, it is pre determined which order the players will be given out.
The formula is basically Best to worst. The determination of order is done by NBA 2K13. We obviously don’t know this ahead of time, but over a few matchups we can start to remember and even document what they are. An example we do know this for however is:
Team USA vs 90s Dream Team:
Team USA: ( 1st.LeBron James PF, 2nd.Kobe Bryant SG, 3rd.Kevin Durante SF, 4rd. Chris Paul PG ,5th Tyson Chandler C )
Dream Team: (1st.Michael Jordan SG, 2nd Robinson C 3rd Charles Barkley PF, 4rd Magic Johnson PG ,5th Larry Bird SF)
With that knowledge your team and your opponents can enter the online teamup lobby now in those orders they choose 2 play those match-ups:
eg. If Fuzz and Shad want to play on Dream Team. Sanga and Akenn want to play on Team USA.
Team 1
Fuzz:
Team: Dream Team
Position: Power Forward (“Sir Charles”)
Queue Position: 5
Shad:
Team: Dream Team
Position: Point Guard ( “Magic”)
Queue Position: 7
Team 2
Sanga
Team: Team USA
Position: Point Guard (Chris Paul)
Queue Position: 8
Akenn
Team USA
Position: Power Forward (LeBron James)

In the above example you can see you would need at least 8 players because you need 8 Players in order to get up to the eighth position (spot) in the team-up lobby queue
